8 a.m. - Noon
IERI Short Courses (Tradewinds C-D)
- Organized
by the International Electronics Recyclers Institute/IERI
- Optional registration (limited seating)
The Short Courses Include:
Downstream
Due Diligence & Risk Management This course will provide
participants with an exposure to reviewing risk management and downstream due
diligence protocols currently being established in the electronics recycling
and IT asset disposition (ITAD) industry. The different protocols will be the
basis for allowing the participants to create their own standards for downstream
due diligence and risk management in a workgroup format. Participants will also
learn some basic auditing methods and techniques.
Course Organizers include Mike Wright of Guaranteed
Recycling Xperts and Peter Bennison of Metech International; Instructors include Bob Tonetti of U.S. EPA, Mike Wright of Guaranteed Recycling Xperts, Dave Church of BVQI, and Andrew McManus, Metech International.
Electronics
Specialty Materials: Recycling & Disposal This course addresses
the challenges recyclers face in dealing with specialty items such as
televisions, cell phones, florescent lamps, and batteries. Industry subject
matter experts will offer solutions for collection, meeting environmental
guidelines, transportation, security, and processing; -as well as identifying
potential reuse markets and disposal costs.
Course Organizer is Andy Ewing of Earth Protection
Services. Session chair is John Chilcott, Earth Protection Services. Instructors include Bob Erie of E-World
Recyclers, Andy Ewing of Earth Protection Services, Craig
Boswell of HOBI International, John
Patterson of Metal Conversion Technologies.

(Islander F-G) Thought
Leadership: Sustainability: Recycling's Place in a Carbon Economy
From Kyoto to Bali, the topic of global warming and carbon reduction has become a focal point of debate in recent years. As carbon reduction and carbon credit trading seem to come closer and closer to reality in the future, what role does recycling play in this carbon reduced market? This session will explore the latest proposals facing legislators, as well as the challenges
and opportunities for the recycling industry.

Strengthening
the Infrastructure for Electronics Recycling – Opportunities for Collaboration
As product manufacturers and recyclers work to comply with state laws around the country, greater collaboration and strategic partnership development is needed. This panel will address key issues such as: Have we moved beyond the need for state and federal legislation? How can recyclers get involved? What is the future of tolling and closed loop contracts? - and more…
